These photos show the kind of poison ivy we eradicate on Massachusetts properties from Boylston outward every season. Some show poison ivy at its worst: thick, hairy vines climbing trees, ground cover spreading through lawns and garden beds, and shrubs growing along fences and timberlines. Others show what it looks like up close, so you know what to look for in your own yard.
Every job starts the same way. We walk the property with you on an educational site visit, point out every patch we find (including the ones that don't look like the textbook picture), and map them for your quote. We then treat the poison ivy twice, and you don't need to be home. If you find live poison ivy in a treated area this year or next calendar year, send us a photo and we retreat at no charge.
Poison ivy changes through the year, which is why it is so easy to miss. It leafs out with three leaflets on one stem, sometimes glossy and bright green, sometimes dull or reddish. Small flowers appear in spring, followed by clusters of berries that birds eat and spread. It is also one of the first plants to turn yellow and red in the fall. It can grow as a free-standing shrub, a rope-like vine on a tree, or a trailing vine along the ground. Every part of the plant contains urushiol, the oil that causes the rash, even in winter.
